STIM has been developed to:
- facilitate the development of Schema Therapy through research, writing and clinical innovations.
- provide training in Schema Therapy to professionals
- educate the general public and professionals about Schema Therapy
- provide help in locating certified Schema Therapists
- foster communication among individuals interested in Schema Therapy
Dr. Lockwood is a Founding Fellow of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy, completed a postdoctoral fellowship in cognitive therapy under the supervision of Aaron T. Beck in 1982 and has training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy and object-relations approaches. He is an Advanced Certified Schema Therapist Trainer-Superisor, was elected to serve on the Executive Board of the International Society of Schema Therapy for 8 years, and has written a number of articles and chapters on cognitive and Schema Therapy. He has also played a central role in the development and validation of three new Schema Therapy constructs (Positive Schemas, Core Negative Parenting Patterns and Core Positive Parenting Patterns) and three associated inventories (The Young Positive Schema Questionnaire, The Young Parenting Inventory-R2, and the Positive Parenting Schema Inventory). He has trained and worked with Dr. Jeffery Young since 1981 (participating in the early development of Schema Therapy and its subsequent development over the past 40 years), and has maintained a private practice for the past 38 years.
